Vera Wang Stunning 2012-13 Autumn/Winter Collection at New York Fashion Week

Vera wang, the unofficial queen of the bridal couture world, showed her latest collection of ready-to-wears (RTW) on the Valentine’s Day at NY fashion week. Wang flaunted feminine, airy designs and presented a collection of stunning blush tones, shadowy champagne-colored layers and deep blacks. It was undeniably a classic masterpiece with modern twist.

In January, Wang presented her Fall 2012 line of wedding gowns. Inspired by witchcraft, Wang designed a series of witchy-looking frocks made from deconstructed chiffon, silk, tulle and organza. As Wang put it, the gowns are, “airy, sexy, mysterious and fun featured by black and nude undergarments, with transparent wisps of carefully organized tulle.”

This season’s ready-to-wears continued to use the non-traditional tones such as black and nude as the featured colors. Inspired by Jane Birkin and vintage YSL, Wang artfully mixed girlish femininity with androgynous sex appeal this collection. Gray wool, watercolor prints, tied chiffon blouses, chunky sweaters, boxy blouses and tuxedo jackets fit the bill for Wang's muse.

"Clothing as sanctuary: The body protectively enveloped in the soft armor of a fitted sheath, the sharp discipline of fencing-inspired jackets, the structured carapace of a coat," the designer explained. "The female form revealed by smoky transparencies that allow a glimpse of skin and of delicate lingerie not meant to be hidden, but seen."

Peplum, a flounce or flourish of fabric attached to the waist or hips of a garment, is showing up frequently in lines for this and next season. There also were comforting, rich touches of boucle (nubbly yarn) and fur, offset by glitzy, substantial crystal-mesh embellishment.
